Pupils Explore Traditional Crafts at Bedales

Tue 20th Jul 2010, 9:23

Boys from Haslemere Prep School enjoyed a day of blacksmithing, bread making, felt making and other traditional activities at Bedales as part of a week by the Prep School dedicated to learning ‘Out of the Box’.

The group of 34 boys also experienced a ‘physical theatre workshop’ in the Bedales Drama School and got a chance to experience extra-curricular activities prior to the start of the summer holidays.

Most of the activities took place at the Outdoor Work area of Bedales where pupils explore traditional crafts and land-based industries in addition to the core academic syllabus.

Outdoor Work is one of the many Bedales Assessed Courses on offer to pupils to complement core GCSE and A level courses.

Haslemere Prep’s Out of the Box Learning Week is designed to give pupils an opportunity to learn and develop skills in areas that would not normally be available in the conventional classroom environment.

Commenting on the day, Keith Budge, Headmaster of Bedales said: “Learning through doing is a big part of the Bedales education and we were very pleased to run Outdoor Work and Drama activities for the Haslemere Prep pupils. It was a great opportunity to share our overall approach to learning. The boys certainly made the most of their day by getting stuck in to all the activities on offer.”
